Your conversation with your mum was hilarious! We are going to be comparing the difference between having a conversation with someone and crafting a text with a reader. For example: Bob: I love this, where did you get it from? Bobarina: oh that old thing? I've had it lying around for ages Bob: ugh... I think I hear thunder Bobarina: oh no... okay... no my washing
This makes some sense to us, but we are having to work hard to figure out what is happening, which means we may stop reading. Instead we could use full sentences and add enough detail for our readers to follow our story:
"I love this, where did you get it from?" asked Bob as he held up an antique vase....
